Unfortunately we have no control over the high cost of rental accommodations in the city and the wait for subsidized housing is several years long. We also do not provide financial support , via rent subsidies or rent arrears.

Housing Help began as a program at what was the Dalhousie Community Centre (now the Somerset West Community Health Centre). Initially, one staff and volunteers helped people with their search for affordable housing and to address rent control. In response to increasing demand, the agency was incorporated in 1992 and became a separate entity. It was the first of several Housing Help centres funded by the province.  As well as the core services, a number of programs and initiatives have been offered over the years including tenant education, and peer support for rooming house tenants.
